Interactive Materiality

This pictorial presents a novel approach to interactive interface design with shape-changing, fluid-driven pouches. A unique weaving technique was developed that interlaces these pouches to enable multidirectional fluid transportation for dynamic 3D forms. The integration of translucent green PLDE and black TPU-coated nylon emphasises tactile and visual interface qualities, enhancing user experience through materiality. Additionally, inspired by a material-driven design approach, the analysis-synthesis- detailing method was applied commonly seen in soft robotics, where computers are now used as design material. This approach introduces hydraulics as a viable alternative to pneumatics for expressive interaction using water as the material medium instead of air.
